Winter Driving Traction Law
During severe winter driving conditions, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Traction Law requires vehicles on mountain roads to have tire traction devices (tire chains, cables) or tires with M+S or 3PMSF rating. When traction requirements are in effect, Big Cottonwood Canyon (SR-190) and Little Cottonwood Canyon SR-210) also require tires have a tread depth of at least 5/32. Please note that all-season tires are not sufficient when traction restrictions are in place.
For your safety, we recommend you keep an eye on weather conditions and review the UDOT driving tips before you go.
