What Makes It Great
From the toll booth, take a number of dirt roads down to the water. Yes, you get to camp right on the water. Setting up your site during the day is recommended, because the beach can have deep sand in spots — especially the farther you travel from the toll booth eastward—and you don’t want to get stuck. Plus, you’ll be set up to see the amazing sunset your site affords.
Unparalleled views of Lake Powell, along with accessibility to the water—you can launch motorized boats or kayaks here—are the prized points associated with this destination. At one time, Lone Rock was thought of as a party beach, but its reputation has changed to provide more of a family-friendly experience. Often, many people can be found swimming in the cool blue waters together, and friendly conversation with nearby campers over campfires is a regular occurrence. The area accommodates RVs, pickup campers, and tents alike.
As compared to developed campgrounds at marinas or in Page, Arizona, this one offers better access to nature and has a much more commanding view. Yet, you will still be able to quickly and easily make it to popular destinations such as Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend.

The same fees apply at Lone Rock Beach Campground as they do throughout the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. You also must pay $14 per night per car to camp on a first-come, first-served basis. There are seasonal restrooms and an outdoor shower for use on the beach. Camping is permitted just about everywhere in the park.
Lone Rock Campground is open year-round, although some facilities might be closed during the winter. Weekends and especially holidays can be quite busy for camping, however, there is plenty of room to camp and there are no limitations to the number of campers allowed, it just gets packed. Obviously, if you’d like to partake in the water activities, summer and fall are the best times of year to visit. Dog are welcome here.
