Bullfrog Marina

  • Weather: Mostly Sunny, 51F

Of the five marinas on Lake Powell, Bullfrog Marina is the closest to the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, and it offers the most amenities outside of Wahweap Marina. With an early morning departure from Salt Lake City, you can be on the water by lunch.

Lake Powell Boating Destinations

Once you get to Bullfrog Marina via Highway 276, you’ll note that the services are many, including lodging, a RV park and two campgrounds, a grocery store, laundry, showers, service station and restaurants.

You can also rent houseboats, motor boats, personal watercrafts, as well as self-propelled boating devices like stand-up paddle boards and kayaks. All can be rented by the day or even by the hour from the marina concessionaire.

Bullfrog also offers a daily ferry service for cars and individuals to Hall’s Crossing, which is beneficial for those travelling onward to San Juan County for more adventuring. It’s recommended to call ahead if utilizing the ferry as the boat can occasionally be out of service for repairs or water levels.

What Makes It Great

Located on the northern end of Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Bullfrog Marina is a great spot to plan your water-friendly vacation. It’s the second largest marina on Lake Powell and offers many amenities to travelers to make your stay and boating experience all the better.

Lake Powell itself is a geological marvel. The deep canyons of Glen Canyon were filled with crystal blue water after dams were built. As such, navigating the waterways is fun and full of adventure. From Bullfrog Marina, you’ll have access to remote beaches, all of which are fine for primitive camping as long as you practice Leave No Trace principles. There are also a number of hikes and canyons accessible via boat just a few short miles from Bullfrog Marina.

Additionally, there are two hikes located at the marina. The first, and most impressive, takes hikers through a gorgeous slot canyon; the trailhead is located next to the visitor center. Another hike takes you from the campground down to the lake shore, and makes for a nice place to swim with the family.

What You’ll Remember

The stoke you feel before renting a boat; the crystalline waters of this wonderful lake; the breeze through your hair as you travel; exploring remote and hidden corners of this man-made lake; the splendid slot canyon hike located right by the visitor center.
