Nordic Valley Ski Resort overlooks a spectacular rural landscape just an hour north of Salt Lake City International Airport. The last leg of the journey is the scenic drive up Ogden or North Ogden Canyon. These canyons quickly shed population density and gain elevation en-route to a boutique resort experience. Nordic Valley feels wonderfully secluded and offers the best of The Greatest Snow on Earth® at a budget-friendly price. In the coldest months, nearby Pineview Reservoir becomes a sea of ice that catches the colors of sunrise and sunset. The world caught a glimpse of this idyllic valley during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Long recognized as an ideal mountain for those new to skiing, surprising diversity of terrain and Utah's signature snow; Nordic Valley is one of the lesser known resorts among the Ogden Valley bunch. The times, however, are changing and the secret is out.
In a way, the resort has returned to its roots: reclaiming the Nordic Valley name from the previous Wolf Mountain as part of new development on the ski hill. Though Nordic Valley is the smallest resort in the Ogden Valley, new trails are accessible via snowcat in anticipation of the expanded resort's future lift service. This 2,000-acre expansion adds dozens of new trails and nearly three times the vertical. Smooth flowing lines and access to over 40 different features at Nordic Valley's terrain park will keep freestyle skiers and boarders plenty entertained.
Enjoy Nordic Valley's annual average of 300 inches, a full mountain of night skiing and inexpensive lift passes. Nordic Valley's size and budget-friendliness have long made it an attractive destination for beginning skiers and as the resort unveils more "of the best learning terrain in the Rockies," it just keeps getting better. And don’t forget, as your skills advance, Nordic Valley's expert runs like Buck Shot, Black Bear and Ephraim's Revenge await. All things combined, the resort makes for a noticeably great family experience. It’s easy for all skill levels to enjoy the day and regroup regularly as a team at the base. Top 4 Ways to Hit the Highlights at Nordic Valley
A 500-acre boutique ski hill, Nordic Valley packs in major terrain for a variety of skill levels, the region’s best terrain park, an entire mountain of night skiing, and soon —even more. Get your ski legs warmed up on the Bridger and Alpine lifts, or if you're an intermediate to expert skier, go straight to the Alpine lift and new cat-ski trails.
1. Falling Star | Black Diamond
Some trails are perfect for hot doggers who want to show off their cool moves to everyone on the lift. Falling Star is one of them. With its direct path down the Alpine lift line, this trail gives the experienced skier a chance to let everyone know just how awesome he or she is. Practice well, and you may even get applause. If you wipe out, perhaps you'll become the falling star.
2. Wear Your Goggles at Night
If you haven’t had enough excitement at the end of the day, suit up for some night skiing. No, you don’t have to limit yourself to those few trails that are lit up — the entire mountain (including the Wolf’s Lair terrain park) is under light. Challenge your pals to hit the largest night skiing in Utah, and you’re guaranteed to have buddies at the bar when you’re finally done for the day.
3. Gold Rush | Blue Square
For intermediate skiers, it’s not often that you get to ski from the top of the mountain all the way to the bottom. But on Gold Rush, you cash in. Hit the Alpine lift to the top of the mountain at 6,330 feet, and take your time cruising the curves of Gold Rush on your tour to the end. Oh look, you’re right at the Alpine lift again. Why not go for a double before you take a rest at the lodge.
4. Get the Lay of the Land Early
Get familiar with this sleeper resort, because its expansion plans will make you say, “I knew this place way back when.” With more snowcat skiing trails this season, the new additions are already starting. Over the next few years, plans include a new gondola, several new lifts, a retail shopping area, year-round activities, 3,000 vertical feet and more than 2,000 acres of new terrain. Get to be a regular now, and you’ll be the Nordic Valley expert.
