Sundance Film Festival
Sundance Film Festival, one of the largest independent film festivals in the world, is a showcase for new work from American and international filmmakers. For more than 30 years, filmmakers and audiences have been traveling to Park City, Utah, and surrounding venues to see some of the most innovative storytelling in cinema today. Yet Sundance is so much more than a film festival because it is hosted by The Best Town in America.
Park City and Utah's other Sundance Film Festival venue cities combine each year's most promising films with The Greatest Snow on Earth®. Why not plan some extra time before, during or after the festival to capture some memories on the slopes? Screenings are concentrated in the Park City area but are also held in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance Mountain Resort, Robert Redford's cozy getaway in a dramatic alpine landscape. Sundance Mountain Resort has itself more than 450 skiable acres while Salt Lake City and Ogden are both gateways to multiple world-class ski resorts with thousands of additional acres. Salt Lake and Ogden are vibrant metros each less than 30 minutes from their respective slopes.
To make the most out of a Sundance Film Festival-focused vacation to Utah, you'll want to plan ahead with Sundance's complete planning tools, but here's a primer to help get you started:
How to Sundance:
An awesome Sundance experience comes with a little advance planning.
Great full-immersion visits are built from Festival Passes, which give you priority access and the most complete Sundance Film Festival experience. Some passes even come with a ticket to one of the festival parties. There are also ticket packages and individual tickets available, but all ticket purchases follow a preregistration process that designates a time slot.
Wait-listing is another way to see films. Register for eWaitlist, then use your phone to monitor available screenings and check in a couple of hours before a screening of your choice and take your chances at the queue. Be prepared with cash only for wait-list admittance.
Program and Activities
The 2017 program is arriving mid-December. At that time, you can begin sketching out your trip, including screenings, panels, sponsor venues and mornings up one of the nearby mountain resorts. There's a lot to think about when traveling for Sundance, so don't worry if you don't have the presence of mind to bring your own equipment. Visit with local outfitters to rent the latest gear, specifically chosen for Utah's unique snow conditions. Should snow fall just prior to or during your visit, you won't want to miss a chance at Utah's renowned powder. There are two top-rated mountain resorts (America's largest resort at Park City Mountain and a SKI Magazine readers' choice top resort at Deer Valley) within minutes of the diverse dining and shopping on Historic Main Street. You can actually catch a lift up the mountain right from the town.
