Monticello is a small town at the edge of the Abajo Mountains with a population of about 2,000. Town attractions include a golf course, historic replicas, a frontier museum, and hunting areas.
At an elevation of 7,000 feet (2,133 meters) Monticello offers a cool respite in the hot summer months. Close to mountain recreation and home of the Hideout Golf Club, one of Utah's best. A visit to the Frontier Museum is a passage through time. Monticello hosts the Ranch Roping Series testing the skills of working cowboys (and girls) through the summer months, the San Juan County Fair in August, the Monticello-to-Canyonlands Triathlon in March, the Annual Winter Festival in February, and co-hosts the San Juan ATV Safari in September.
