High School Musical

The High School Musical series was almost entirely shot in the State of Utah. Beginning with the first High School Musical, the Disney Channel production filmed in the Salt Lake City in area neighborhoods and of course East High School. The teenage musical drama took its audience by storm, and began a franchise.

The phenomena prompted the sequel, High School Musical 2, which also filmed at East High School, but also featured many scenes in and around St. George. Once again produced by the Disney Channel, High School Musical 2 broke records for viewership, and at the time was the most watched cable telecast in history.

The next step for Disney was to take the series was the big screen. High School Musical 3 once again chose Utah for its filming location and primarily set at East High School, and the Salt Lake City area. High School Musical 3 set a new record for the largest opening weekend for a musical film.

The Utah Office of Tourism has produced an itinerary for travelers who wish to tour the High School Musical film locations. Please explore it here.
