Art Museums and Galleries

Utahns have always placed a high priority on the arts. The Utah Arts Council, organized in Utah in 1899, is the country's oldest state arts agency.

Utah is clearly a "state of the arts." From the highly-acclaimed Utah Symphony in the north, to the Tony Award®-winning Shakespearean Festival in the south. Opera, dance, unique performances, festivals and celebrations take place throughout the year. Museums and art galleries, in cities large and small, showcase visual art collections from the representational to the abstract. Utah writers, whose stories celebrate the landscape and lore of Utah, receive national acclaim for their work. Finally, Utah has always been a popular choice for filmmakers, because of its variety of scenic landscapes.
