Circle Back: Ski and Golf in One Epic Utah Day

Posted on March 28, 2014 7:29AM by Ray Grass

Here's something you might have missed: You can ski and golf lots of places. This time of year in Utah, you can do both on the same day, and get The Greatest Snow on Earth® and some of the nation's best public courses while you're at it. Plan a day during your visit to take advantage of the unique outdoor recreation experiences that define Utah: Life Elevated.
Author: Ray Grass

For 47 years, Grass was on the staff at the Deseret News, 37 of those years as outdoor editor. Key responsibilities involved writing about all outdoor activities, such as skiing, fishing, camping, wildlife, hiking, rafting, biking and in-state travel stories, which included visiting and writing about all of Utah's outdoor wonders. In 1976 introduced the weekly Deseret News Outdoor Page. In 2005, Outdoor Writers Association of American voted the Deseret News Outdoor Page No. 1 in the country. Grass wrote a number of sports stories, including covering two Olympics and writing along with two co-workers a 2002 Olympic book, but ultimately prefers getting outdoors.

Mr. Grass was a founding officer in the Utah Outdoor Resources Foundation, which raised money for outdoor programs such as bighorn sheep transplant, building a disabled hiking trail at Snowbird and sponsoring a dozen children's fishing program at Fairmont Park, Murray Park and Mark Eaton's Standing Tall fishing program.

Grass retired from Deseret News in 2009 and is currently writing outdoor stories for Deseret News and KSL online.

This is what happens when you combine The Greatest Snow on Earth with kites, crosswind attacks of 5 to 20 mph and nearly 10,000 feet in elevation in the mountains of Central Utah.
